A “first insight” survey shows 66% of consumers rank high gas prices as the number one category affecting their daily lives, followed by the high cost of groceries (58%), dining out (29%) and vehicle prices (21%).

CBS 21 Anchor Candace Scalese printed off her Giant Direct order from October 17, 2021. She compared the cost of grocery items in October to the week of May 17, 2022.

Not every item price jumped. But some prices increased more than a dollar.

The biggest jump in prices were eggs. What was $1.29 in October is costing $3.29 in May.

Gala apples a few months ago were $.96 cents each. Now, they're $1.23.

Other items like cilantro Ready Rice packs jumped up $.20 to $.25 cents.

Tallying up the price changes, in October 2021, Candace paid about $11.00 for eight items. To purchase those same items in May 2022, it would cost $17.00, a $6.00 difference.

Those high prices are changing the way people spend money, looking for deals, staying on a budget and buying less overall.
